[magazine kave=Son Jin-ki columnist] A year of unprecedented turmoil in modern history, 2025!!

The impeachment of the president witnessed by the entire nation, the early presidential election, the reality of various cults revealed, the dramatic conclusion of the Korea-U.S. trade deal, the approval of nuclear submarines, and the rapidly conducted three special investigations... It's exhausting just to list them.

It will be hard to find a year where the word 'eventful' resonates so deeply.

The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic where the people hold sovereignty.

Then, the rulers must reflect on what they have done for the people as the year comes to a close.

What have business leaders done for their boards and workers? They should examine how much they have truly shared with their boards and employees,

teachers should reflect on whether they have genuinely shared love with their students, and clergy should count how much they have served their congregations this year.

Have the military truly devoted themselves to protecting this country? Have the police done their best to serve as the people's staff? How much time have legal professionals spent to ensure that no one is wronged?

Thinking about it, it seems that everyone will remember this year as one where collective self-interest overshadowed their professional duties and wielded power.

Democracy shows its effects through interaction. It will be relativistic actions, not collective self-interested thoughts and behaviors, that will guide the new year of 2026 with bright hope.

All problems are intertwined with power and money.

Power and money!

Instead of being happy for having a lot, I hope that the new year will be one where we reflect on how much we have shared and take pride in having shared a lot in 2026.

May it truly be a Happy New Year...
